Phys. Rev. Lett. 100, 174802 (2008) [4 pages]Operational Stochastic Cooling in the Relativistic Heavy-Ion ColliderReceived 2 October 2007; published 2 May 2008 Operational stochastic cooling of 100 GeV/nucleon gold beams has been achieved in the BNL Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider. We discuss the physics and technology of the longitudinal cooling system and present results with the beams. A simulation algorithm is described and shown to accurately model the system. © 2008 The American Physical Society URL:
