Lett. 17, 444–445 (1966)Singularities in the UniverseReceived 30 June 1966; published in the issue dated 22 August 1966 It is shown that space-time cannot be singularity free if the Einstein equations hold, matter has normal properties, and some reasonable global conditions hold.
