Phys. Rev. Lett. 24, 1330–1333 (1970)Experimental Observation of the Ballistic Plasma Electron Wave EchoReceived 6 February 1970; published in the issue dated 15 June 1970 Plasma-electron-echo experiments are described in which the relation between the echo wavelength and frequency is given by ω3/k3=v′, where v′ is a constant independent of the primary frequencies used to generate the echo. The velocity v′ is approximately equal to the velocity at which the electron distribution has maximum slope. It is concluded that the relation between echo frequency and wavelength is determined by the ballistic properties of the electrons. © 1970 The American Physical Society URL:
