An analysis of the spectral properties of filaments of light in CS2 under high spatial resolution and with picosecond excitation is presented. It is shown that a steady-state pulse with constant diameter develops in the filaments. This and other results indicate that self-trapped filaments rather than tracks of moving foci have been observed.
