Phys. Rev. Lett. 26, 1012–1015 (1971)Spontaneous Magnetic Fields in Laser-Produced PlasmasReceived 25 January 1971; published in the issue dated 26 April 1971 Spontaneously generated magnetic fields of the order of a kilogauss have been observed in a laser-produced plasma, using a variety of targets and background pressures. The generation of these magnetic fields is explained in terms of thermoelectric currents associated with large temperature gradients near the target. © 1971 The American Physical Society URL:
