Scalar-Quark Bound-State Interpretation of the ζ(8.3)

We interpret the ζ(8.3 GeV) as the 0++ ground state of a scalar-quark (σσ) bound system where σ is a color triplet and has electric charge |Q|=1/3. With the use of the quarkonium potential model, the energy of the third (1--) P state is calculated to be within 50 MeV of the ϒ state. If it falls within the machine energy spread (20 MeV at DORIS) of the ϒ, all existing data can be understood.
