Lett. 55, 2032–2034 (1985)Real-Space Observation of Surface States on Si(111) 7×7 with the Tunneling MicroscopeReceived 25 July 1985; published in the issue dated 4 November 1985 We have observed surface states indigenous to the Si(111) 7×7 superlattice with the tunneling microscope. The data show the states' energies and strengths to be strongly dependent on position in the unit mesh.
