Phys. Rev. Lett. 59, 2503–2506 (1987)Generic 1/f Noise in Chaotic Hamiltonian DynamicsReceived 10 August 1987; published in the issue dated 30 November 1987 We describe a mechanism for generic 1/f noise in nonintegrable Hamiltonian systems. The phenomenon is observed in the velocity fluctuations of a particle in a 2D periodic potential and is associated with anomalously enhanced deterministic diffusion. It is explained in terms of a renewal process and trapping in a hierarchy of nested cantori. © 1987 The American Physical Society URL:
