Phys. Rev. Lett. 79, 2022–2025 (1997)Strong-Field Dissociation and Ionization of H2+ Using Ultrashort Laser PulsesReceived 19 May 1997; published in the issue dated 15 September 1997 By using laser pulses (40 fsec) on the order of the vibrational period of H2+ and high-dynamic range detection electronics, we have removed, for the first time, the ambiguities in interpreting the proton kinetic energy spectrum resulting from the dissociation and ionization of H2+. We then use the kinetic energy spectrum to directly test recent calculations of the ionization rate of H2+ as a function of internuclear separation. © 1997 The American Physical Society URL:
