Lett. 79, 829–832 (1997)A Simple Model for Granular ConvectionReceived 15 February 1996; revised 29 July 1996; published in the issue dated 4 August 1997 A stochastic model, validated by numerical simulations, is used to analyze granular convection. The vertical flow field is found to depend on the hyperbolic cosine of the horizontal coordinate and on a mixed linear-exponential function of the vertical coordinate. Separate cellular automata and particle dynamic simulations are included. Results agree with existing experimental studies and give predictions to be tested experimentally. © 1997 The American Physical Society URL:
