Lett. 80, 3037–3040 (1998)Observation of Atomic AntihydrogenReceived 26 November 1997; published in the issue dated 6 April 1998 We report the background-free observation of atomic antihydrogen, produced by interactions of an antiproton beam with a hydrogen gas jet target in the Fermilab Antiproton Accumulator. We measure the cross section of the reaction p̅ p→H̅ e-p for p̅ beam momenta between 5203 and 6232 MeV/ c to be 1.12±0.14±0.09 pb. © 1998 The American Physical Society URL:
