Linear Kinetic Modes in Weakly Collisional Plasma

Experimental and theoretical evidence is reported for the existence of discrete modes in the weakly collisional regime of electrostatic ion waves. The decay of time-harmonic perturbations of the ion velocity distribution function is found to be weaker than expected, and to have a different functional form from the classical theory.
