Assembly of gold nanoparticles into microwire networks induced by drying liquid bridgesAccepted Thursday Jan 08, 2009 Large interconnected gold wire structures (~ cm2) of different topologies have been made by a micro lithography method based on the slow evaporation of the liquid bridge network formed by a suspension of gold nanoparticles around a crystalline layer of latex particles. Evaporation of the suspending medium assembles the nanoparticles into a network of micrometer thick gold wires. Key to the formation of the wire structures is the stability of the liquid bridge network that depends critically on the presence of small concentrations of surfactants rather than the interfacial tension of the liquid. |
