We report on a source of ultra-narrowband photon pairs generated by widely non-degenerate cavity-enhanced spontaneous downconversion. Both photons have a spectral bandwidth around 2 MHz. One of the photons is at 606 nm in order to be compatible with Pr3+ doped solid state quantum memories, while the other photon is at the telecommunication wavelength of 1436 nm. This source is ideally suited for long distance quantum communication architectures involving solid state quantum memories.
