Demonstration of a wave echo in a magnetized electron-plasma vortex. The images are of density perturbations at successive times. At (a), an initial wave is excited and then dies away by Landau damping in (b) & (c). A second wave is launched at time (d), damping away in (e-g). By (h), the initial inviscid wave damping has reversed, spontaneously forming the echo shown. |
