APS seeks new leading Editor of Physical Review Letters (February 13, 2013)The American Physical Society is conducting an international search for the leading Editor of Physical Review Letters (PRL). The leading Editor is responsible for editorial standards, policies and direction of the journal, and leadership of the staff of 20 editors. Jack Sandweiss of Yale University has held this position for 25 years and will step down in the summer of 2013. PRL is the leading multidisciplinary letters journal in the field of physics, and is among the most highly cited journals in the sciences. The ideal candidate should possess many of the following qualifications: stature in a field of research within the scope of PRL and within the PRL author community; experience with scholarly journals; management and interpersonal skills to deal effectively with an international array of authors, referees, and editors and with the APS; advocacy, integrity, and wisdom to lead the journal in responding to important matters and issues. The Editor may maintain his/her present appointment and location and devote at least 20% of his/her time to the position. A higher level of commitment would be desirable in the initial year of service; several possible levels of long-term commitment, from 20% to 50%, are possible. Candidates who can be physically present at the APS editorial office (Long Island, New York--adjacent to Brookhaven National Lab and near Stony Brook Univerity) at least once a month are preferred. The initial appointment is for three years with renewal possible after review. Salary is negotiable and dependent on time commitment. The desired starting date is 1 August 2013. The APS is an equal employment opportunity employer and especially encourages applications from or nominations of women and minorities. The search is not limited to residents of the United States. Inquiries, nominations, and applications should be sent by 1 May 2013 to: U. Heinz, PRL Search Committee Chair, edsearch@aps.org. |
